Teething & Sleep!

I recently chatted on my Instagram stories about teething and sleep and thought I would post it here for future reference. Watch it it below, and see my teething tips noted below there too!

Things to help teething:

Each baby is different, and you may have to try different things until you find something that works for your baby, but here are the common things that can help soothe sore gums.

  • Teething rings/ toys

Teething rings give your baby something to chew on and some can be cooled in the fridge

first to help soothe little gums!

  • Soft, chilled fruit or vegetables or breadsticks (once weaned)

If your baby is over 6 months old, you can give soft, chilled fruit and vegetables, such as

melon and cucumber. I personally found breadsticks great for my girls and they both loved

them when teething.

  • Teething gels or powders (especially for babies)

According to the NHS, there is a "lack of evidence that teething gels are effective. It's

recommended that parents try non-medical options for teething first, such as a teething

ring". However, some parents find gels and powders for teething babies can provide some

relief.

  • Paracetamol / ibuprofen

Lastly, there is paracetamol and ibubrofen which some parents find is occasionally

helpeful.

It can be useful if they have a slight temperature from teething too. Of course, seek

medical advice if needed, this is just a guide.

  • Cuddles and comfort and the good old art of distraction!

Cuddling, comforting or playing with your baby can distract them from any teething pain.

Remember to keep a bib to hand to help mop up all the excess dribble, to try and help keep

them rash free and sore.

If symptoms persist for longer than a few days, I always recommend seeking medical advice to rule out any other underlying causes of discomfort.
